Funny, I never heard some of these songs until I went to college parties...my own musical repertoire was very limited in my teens. I remember "She's in Parties" vaguely, and that I liked it. The only songs I ever heard by ABC were "Poison Arrow" and "Be Near Me."
You MUST add Fun Boy Three's, "Our Lips Are Sealed." Would a little Smack Jack by Frau Hagen be too over-the-top for such a playlist? Is there even such a thing as too over-the-top? A little Nina, bitte?
Oh Sven, let me count the ways... I do quite absolutley love Nina, but, alas, the 'right' song wasn't on itunes. Smack Jack is a very Berlin song from the time, but it's not there. For my thoughts on Nina, see March 06, April 06, and October 06 in my archives. XO, BC
Speaking of Berlin, my roomate was banned, although I don't remember exactly why? So being the loyal pal I was, I chose to kill brain cells elsewhere. But not that we didn't try to sneak in to test the murky waters. But alas, no matter how deeply he buried himself beneath layers of black scarves, jewels and eyeliner, they always recognized him, and we were promtly shown the door. As you can imagine, being cut off from Berlin's generous serving of hot guys was absolutely painful. Painful. But just as bad, what if something went down that would be the hot topic of conversation for weeks, and we missed it? But if my roomate couldn't darken their threshold, then neither would I. It would be criminal to venture into Berlin without my partner-in-crime at my side. You understand, I'm sure.
bc - you forgot Tiffany - okay, maybe not. i've been lurking and love your story. you were the age during the eighties that i wanted to be. i was just a little younger - too young for the clubs. moved into the city when i was 20 in 1989. then things started to get interesting. i can relate directly this music and the ramen noodles you mentioned in an earlier post, in that my first roommate, cameron, turned me on to both (well, as far as the noodles are concerned,we were just too poor to eat anything else).

Is it a habit of yours to write about Frau Hagen on the 6th day of the month? Fascinating!
We always wondered why we never saw you there...

Hi Bette, lurker no more...
I sometimes have ramen just for old times sake.
You really get nostalgic for ramen?
